Welche nachfolgenden Projekte stehen an?

Interview: In a conversation with the Kosovar filmmaker More Raca, she tells me about her short film “She” (OT: “Ajo”), the story behind it and the concern she has with it.
With your short film “Ajo” you have succeeded in making a remarkable short film. How did the story come about?
Thank you very much, it means so much to hear this! I have been working on women’s stories for quite a long time, I live in Kosovo a country with many socio-economic problems where women are facing discrimination regarding property, access to work, education, and one of most concerning issues is domestic violence against girls and women. Many women in Kosovo were killed by their partners or husbands. Most of the women asked for help and protection which wasn’t offered to them. It was important to tell this story for which I was inspired by the real events that I heard, it’s a story about AJO, a sad story that many women around the world have witnessed and continue to.
At the end of the film, we see the daughter and mother driving the car and escaping the violence, its a happy ending, a decision that the daughter makes and her mother joins her. I wanted the characters to have a choice, a choice that women in real life rarely can make, the choice to escape. At the same time, I wanted the audience to feel the responsibility that we as a society, as a country, have toward women that escape violence. How much are we doing for them to help them escape, and how much are we doing for them after their making the decision to escape.
Which social and even political topics are close to your heart and have contributed to the story?
It’s always the women stories, women issues, in this country with so many problems women are the one who are most discriminated and has to go through a lot. Each woman has a story to tell, a story that can turn into a heartfelt film.
If I heard it right, are you promoting the film just now for the Oscars? Have you made it onto the shortlist for 2019?
The shortlist will be announced in January (if I am correct), we were in LA for campaigning for the movie, we had interviews, and many events there.
Can you tell me more about the shooting and how you found your actors? It all looks very lifelike.
I wanted to tell this story in the most minimalistic cinematic style. The long shots for the perspective of mother and daughter are to make the audience feel with them, as they are in the backseat of the car waiting there for a long time and in the background, it is her father arranging his daughter marriage. I didn’t want this film to have much dialog and to tell the relationship between the family members only by their faces, as they look at each other. It was so important to cast the right people since most of the story is revealed by how they se each other. Since the writing process, I have put faced of the actors that you see in the film on the characters, their facial expression and strong emotions made me choose them and I am very happy the cast.
Now to you: How did you discover your love for the film? Tell me a little more about yourself.
It is a very emotional story of how I fell in love with the movies. I was six when I witnessed how powerful film can be, how it can make you feel like you not alone in this world, like your, not the only person going through difficult times and at the same time how it can give you courage in hard times. I am working right now on a script on how I fell in love with film I wouldn’t like to reveal more about it since I am hoping it will be a short film by the end of next year.
How will it go on with you? Which subsequent projects are on the agenda?
It has been years since I have been working on my first feature film titled The Andromeda Galaxy, happily, we will begin shooting at the beginning of 2019. It is also a film that will bring to screen the social issues of my country.
