Interview: Im Gespräch mit dem Regisseur Calí dos Anjos konnten wir mehr über seinen Kurzfilm „Tailor“, gesehen im Programm „Queer-Streifen“ in Regensburg, erfahren – wie er entstand und was ihm bei der Umsetzung wichtig war.

Dein Kurzfilm ist ein animierter Dokumentarfilm. Erzähl mir zum Ursprung des Projekts.
Ich fand heraus, dass ich Transgender bin und ich hatte nicht viele Bezüge zu anderen Transgender-Menschen in Brasilien, also half mir die Arbeit von Tailor, mich selbst besser zu verstehen. Dann hatte ich den Wunsch, seine Zeichnungen in Animationen zu verwandeln – auf diese Weise konnten wir mehr Menschen erreichen, genauso wie er mich erreicht hatte.
Es ist ja auch ein sehr persönlicher Film. Kannst Du mir mehr zu Deinem Background erzählen? Wie offen werden LGBT Themen in Brasilien behandelt?
Brasilien ist ein konservatives Land mit starken Aktivisten-Gruppen. Wir haben die größte LGBT+-Pride-Parade der Welt und einige Gesetze die LGBT+-Menschen unterstützen, gleichgeschlechtliche Ehe ist legal und Trans-Personen haben das Recht, ihren Namen durch einen Notar zu ändern. Es ist paradox, denn wir sind das Land, in dem die meisten Transgender- und LGBT-Menschen der Welt umgebracht werden, und wir haben einen wirklich konservativen und offen LGBT+-phoben Präsidenten gewählt.
Wie habt ihr eure Interviewpartner gefunden. Gab es noch mehr? Wie hast Du Deine Auswahl getroffen.
Wir wollten verschiedene Transgender-Erfahrungen. Wir haben einen Beitrag auf Facebook verfasst, in dem wir die Menschen auffordern, ihre Geschichten zu erzählen, und wir haben Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Geschichten ausgewählt, die nicht unbedingt dem Stereotyp folgen, das die Gesellschaft von Transgender-Individuen hat.
Erzähl mir mehr zur Umsetzung und zu dem gewählten Stil.
Wir folgten dem Stil von Tailor. Raissa Laban, die Animatorin, verwandelte Tailors Zeichenstil in Animation, auch schlug sie eine Farbpalette speziell für den Film vor.
Wie wird es jetzt bei Dir weitergehen? Hast Du Geschmack am Filmemachen gefunden?
Wir wollen aus „Tailor“ einen Spielfilm machen, wir schreiben das Drehbuch und finden Ressourcen, um es auszuführen. Außerdem bin ich Cutter, also schneide ich weiterhin einige Filme wie „Depois do Dia 23“ von Lucas Milecco und „Homens Invisiveis“ von Luis Carlos de Alencar.

Interview: In conversation with the director Calí dos Anjos we could learn more about his short film “Tailor“, seen in the program “Queerstreifen” in Regensburg – how it was made and what was important for the realization.
Your short film is an animated documentary. Tell me about the origin of the project.
I was finding out I was transgender and I didn’t have a lot of references of other transgender people in Brazil, so when I saw the work of Tailor it helped me to understand myself better. Then I had the wish of transforming his drawings in animation. In this way we could reach more people, just as he had reached me.
It’s also a very personal film. Can you tell me more about your background? How open are LGBT topics treated in Brazil?
Brazil is a conservative country with strong activist movements. We have the biggest LGBT+ pride of the world and some laws pro LGBT+ people, same sex marriage is legal and trans people have the right to change their name in a notary’s office. It’s a paradoxical, because we are the country that kills the most transgender and LGBT people in the world and we elected a really conservative and openly LGBT+-phobic president.
How did you find your interview partners? Did you have any more? How did you make your choice?
We wanted different transgender experiences. We made a post on facebook asking people to tell their stories, and we chose people with different stories that do not necessarily follow the stereotype that society have of transgender individuals.
Tell me more about the implementation and the chosen style.
We followed the style of Tailor. Raissa Laban, the animator, transformed Tailor’s drawing style into animation, also she proposed a color palette specially for the film.
What are you next plans now? Have you found a taste for filmmaking?
We want to do the feature film of “Tailor“, we are writing the script and finding resources to execute it. Also, I’m film editor so I continue on editing some films as “Depois do Dia 23” directed by Lucas Milecco and “Homens Invisiveis” directed by Luis Carlos de Alencar.
